A Leaf Spring for Every Need

Hendrickson provides the widest range of springs available in today’s industry. In addition to the proven state of the art, steel springs, Hendrickson offers composite springs as a lightweight alternative. Composite springs are used when the customer’s main focus is on applications where extreme weight saving is needed.

Our Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic (GFRP) leaf springs are customized according to each and every customer technical requests.
  

Weight-saving Solutions

For weight sensitive applications, Hendrickson offers GFRP leaf springs that complement our high performance steel spring portfolio. We offer GFRP solutions for front or rear axles, from Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV) to medium and heavy duty trucks, supporting our customers along the way to find the best fit for them.

When comparing steel springs with the leightweight GFRP solutions weight savings of 50% - 75% are possible. This presents for instance 40 kg on a front axle for a heavy duty application when using a composite spring instead of a steel mono leaf spring.  

 

 

Proven Expertise in R&D

We have been involved in the development, manufacturing and testing of Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic (GFRP) leaf springs for 30 plus years. Our engineers were successful in designing and testing GRPF leaf springs for various LCVs customer projects in the 80’s and 90’s. These projects met or exceeded our customer’s technical expectations. 

Our commitment to innovation and technology has made it possible to develop lightweight composite springs for heavy duty truck applications. GFRP mono-leaf leaf springs for 7 and 5T front axles, with a central thickness over 90mm, have been successfully developed and road tested confirming our simulated in-house testing programs. Other designs including hybrid leaf springs (combination of steel spring and GFRP) and boogie springs are currently under development to provide efficient solutions for truck manufacturers and transport companies.

Building on our extensive experience in the design and manufacturing of steel leaf springs, and in combination with the latest developments of raw composite materials and associated industrial processes, we are currently actively involved with various OEM customer projects. This includes the next generation Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic (GFRP) composite leaf spring for commercial applications ranging from LCVs to 44T heavy duty trucks. Hendrickson continues to meet our customers’ needs in the global commercial trucking industry.
